5 Pack Snacks That Won’t Create A Dental Bill
Peanuts and granola? Almonds and coconut? Walnut pieces and chocolate chunks? Glommed together with fruit glue? Muddy Boots has been on a personal mission to find alternatives owing to the correlation between crunch and dental bills. Chompless pack snacks sorely needed.
Not to worry. There are now plenty of tasty options to give you a boost on your hike, bike, snowshoe. And we’re not talking about Gu, Clif Bars, Oreos, jelly beans, or jerky.
These pick-me-up pack snacks
Are light and compact, too. And they won’t bust a budget. Tuck several into your pack every time you head out.
#1 Stinger or Gu honey waffles/caramel waffles
In various flavors.
#2 That’s it fruit bar
Mashed fruit, straight up.
#3 Kerrygold Dubliner cheese wedges
#4 Justin’s nut butter in a mini-pack
Sweetened up (or not) with honey, maple syrup, or chocolate. Some main-stream brands come in a one serving-size container.
# 5 Late July mini sandwich crackers
Ritz Bitz may provide the same whammy, albeit with a few not-so-natural ingredients.
That’s it for pack snacks for now, but
Note: the snacks mentioned in this post are quick fixer-uppers. If you’re going on a backcountry hike (e.g. in the Cascades), you need considerably more than this. You need some serious high-caloric food. Include, e.g. peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. This is to prop up your energy enough to get you back to the trailhead, keep you from becoming hypothermic, and sustain you if you get delayed by an emergency. You don’t want to be in the middle of nowhere with an uncooperative brain, let alone wobbly legs.
